On our geocaching podcast today, we are GOING CACHING to try to get to Pluto. We literally have our GOING CACHING t-shirts on (from Going Caching 2017) and we chat about the Going Caching events AND the amazing tools of the trade from last year’s event as we go. ALSO, we kick off a contest to give away some fabulous prizes donated by the Going Caching crew plus a ton of other geocaching goodness.

3…2..1. “LAUNCH!”
I was able to complete the Planetary Pursuit with 1 day 14 hours and 03 minuets (this prior to the additional time allowed by HQ). I had to share that my final six finds were all outerspace related. I hosted a breakfast event out in Tooele County Utah (GC7FR7A BON APPETIT! #10 PLANETARY PURSUIT Day 20) where a local cacher had palced a series near the Observatory. They are the following: GC6WBVT PLANETS / GC6VEV9 Starz / GC6WDEP METEOR SHOWERZ / GC6VZ0N Star Power / GC6VZ0C Constellations. It was a GREAT way to polish things off!
Also you all asked if any one was using the Uni-ball Power Tank Ballpoint Pen. Well I’m a HUGE fan of the Fisher Space Pen. Best pen out there for caching in my opinion but costly! With that said I recently misplaced one of my two pens and was about to purchase another a few weeks back when I heard about the Uni-ball Power Tank on your show. I tracked one down and used it for the first time this past weekend. So far I have enjoyed it. Writes well, and just like the Fisher, on damp logs. I plan to use the Uni-ball Power Tank on my road trip to Geowoodstock 2018 that will encompass 8 days / 4,500 miles / 17 States and soooo many caches. I will form my final opinion after that trip.
My favorite TOTTs are my GPSr. phone(with camera and flashlight feature), and my waistpack with the essentials (mini pen, rite-in-the-rain pen, spare batteries, tweezers, log roller, repair stuff(assorted O-rings, spare logs/baggies, desiccants, duct tape), disposable latex gloves, wet naps, alcohol pads, alcohol spray, bandaids, letterbox stamp, and $1 bill and 4 quarters (for emergency SWAG)).
Favorite TOTT: Swiss Army Knife
Congratulations on making it to Pluto!
I completed the Pluto Challenge in the first two day. I attended Going Caching last year for the first time, it was the BEST Mega I have ever attended and encourage everyone that to go.
I went to Going Caching a few years back and really enjoyed the work put into it and variety of activities. I have already booked my campsite for this year.
As for TOTT, my backpack has pens, Sharpies, log retriever, cache repair kit with supplies, spare micro containers, mesh gloves, hemostats, Leatherman, batteries, USB portable charger, flashlight (normal and UV), and first aid kit. For hikes, I have my hiking poles, with spare duct tape wrapped around each of the poles for emergency cache repair.
My favorite TOTT is actually one of those little waterproof canisters one can find in museum gift shops, marine stores, and other places. It’s about the size of a pill bottle, and is just right to fit in my pocket with extra log sheets, golf pencils, and a fresh set of batteries for the GPSr. I have one I’ve been using since I started caching in 2012, and for the $2.50 I paid for it, it’s my most used caching tool!
Our favorite TOTT is a good old fashion paper clip. It has several uses from extracting log sheets to organizing maps and notes.
I’m adding a pack to my caching bag right now–that’s genius!
Great show as usual. Keep em coming.
Most used TOTT is a pair of tweezers, always in my pocket
My best TOTT is my geo-backpack, loaded with many different types of TOTTs!. I never leave home without it!!
My favorite ToTT is an expanding rod with a mirror and flashlight on one end, and a magnet on the other.
Favorite TOTT? I never cache without my Swiss Army Knife
My Favorite TOTT is a pair of Tweezers.
My favorite TOTT? Too many to choose just one. I love my “fishing” now “caching” vest with lots of pockets to cary my TOTTs. Several of my TOTT are prizes won at Going Caching in past years.
I was determined to get to Pluto without doing the method many others did of dropping and picking up the same TBs over and over again. The website kept going down on my days off, which really messed with my caching plans. I got it timed to finish up the day before the promotion was originally going to end, but then I ended up having to put my cat down and bury her instead, so my out of town caching plans went down the toilet. So the next day I went and finished up the caches I needed to get to Pluto and as soon as I did, I got three different people texting me to tell me it had been extended a week. Go figure!
My favorite TOTT is the needle-nosed tweezers from groundspeak. A bit pricey for a pair of tweezers and I never use the magnifying glass on the other end of it, but that pointed tip makes such a huge difference! If I don’t bring my caching bag, I at least have my pen, phone, and tweezers. Other things I bring with me are an external battery pack and power cord for my phone, baggies, empty logs, bison tubes for replacing damaged caches (the bottoms or tops of them seem to go missing a lot around here!), flashlights, bug and tick spray, and always water. When I’m really organized I have a retracting pole with a magnet on it and a mirror. (I am rarely organized.)
My favorite TOTT is pocket queries! I use them for just about everything, so it is the most valuable part of being premium for me!
I made it to Pluto, and back! 1443 total points meant I had enough in the tank to visit several other dwarf planets too.
Favorite TOTT is the Fisher Space Pen I got in a caching “loot crate” subscription box at one point. I also like the PodCacher whistle I got when I was a member and keep it on my lanyard with two of my cachekinz. Could come in handy in an emergency. That and a bunch of other tools are always in my bag. I have: Tweezers, a first aid kit (with bandaids, tape, antibacterial ointment and some other things), flashlight, extra pens, as well as trackables, and some trade items.
I’ve got a lot of favorite TOTTs, but my trusty Swiss Army Knife has to be close to the top of the list. On Podcacher recommendation, I’ve recently started using the Powertank pens for signing logs and other daily uses, and they are great! See you in Cincinnati !
My favorite TOTT is a magnet tweezers.
My favorite TOTT is my Fisher Space Pen Trekker because I use it at all the most satisfying times. On the same keyring as my house key, it is always with me. Thanks, Sonny, for letting me know about it years ago.
