I wanted to comment on the abandoned cach that you talked about on 579.0 by Varafharkin. Misspelled? My son placed a cache in the high desert and after a few years moved To a remote area of Northern California. I watched after his cache for some time, but due to no internet he dropped his geocaching account. I contacted the reviewers with explanation and was referred to another reviewer. Just as you said. Without the owners approval there’s no way I could adopt the cache. I went out for maintaince and found the plastic container was breaking apart due to the desert weather. I brought it home, having another container just like it and posted a maintaince message. Slow to finish up I did not get the cache replaced in a timely manner. The Blue cut fife swept through the area and one cacher too a photo of where the cache had been. It would have been a total loss. Do what you have to do.
