Interesting podcast again!
The never ending discussion smartphone vs gps.
In my opinion, many smartphones like the high end samsungs are more durable accurate than handheld gps.
Here is an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa8qYat5JEM (before playing, turn down the sound!) and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIf9GdCzY_Y
Accuracy: many high end androids have the same gps-chipset as a garmin. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SiRF and down below you find a list of handset makers that use the same gps chipset from Sirf. I would love to see some tests to see if an etrex is really more accurate than my galaxy s4.
My point I’m not convinced that an etrex is better, neither that my samsung galaxy s4 is better. I have found more than 5000 caches (including more than 1200 multis) with smartphone.
Let the long discussion begin!
TB-hotels. I have more than 320 trackables out travelling. I love to see geocaches that are big enough to hold travel bugs. So I love the concept of TB-hotels. But I prefer spreading and travels of my of travel bugs over heaps of travel bugs in a few caches.
Thanks again for another great podcast!
Being the owner of an eTrex I thought your listeners might like to know that it also like the GPSMAP 64 has seals and is water tight. I purchased it as a result of a YouTube review where the reviewer submerged it in a creek for an extended length of time and showed it still operating while submerged. Urban cachers may not consider water proof a big deal, but for those of us who like to get out into the wild, keeping your gear dry or at least operating when wet is a big deal. To me, accuracy is not that big a deal. After all, you still have to use your geosense once you get close to GZ. So close is usually good enough. Isn’t that the whole point of the game?
Sean got some great photos on the photo walk! He’s turning out just like Sonny!
