What a great show again!
First: let me congratulate you with your find for the souvenir. What a challenge!
The issue about logging for others is also a never-ending discussion on the Netherlands forum. My opinion? In real life it is the other way around. Managers get the credits for the work that workers do. Having other geocachers doing the work for you is just real life basic management. I have done tree caches as a manager. I have a non-geocaching nephew member who has been national champion tree climbing. We were out together one day for some tree-caches and my niece on the ground signed the logs with my name. We all had a great day. Yes, the key word is satisfaction.
The checker-thing. I agree so much with you! I wished that checkers were mandatory.
This wheelchair-thing. I so much agree with the article. Here in the Netherlands, in my opinion, caches are way underrated when it comes to terrain. Perhaps in other parts of the world too. One star terrain should be wheelchair, 1.5 stars terrain when on crutches, or for very little children. Next you have to 2.0 2.5 3.0 3.5 4.0 and 4.5 ratings, sufficient options to differentiate. It should be taken seriously because there are wheelchair geocachers.
Anyway, thanks again for the great show!
Thanks for your thoughts. Geocaching “manager” – interesting idea! 🙂
Listening to the MAPP show My opinion on cache logging is:
If I am with a group, we generally have one person to sign for all, sometimes individually or as a group.
If I hike to a cache with a buddy we trade the signing chore for both of us, maybe three cachers.
The very first cache I saw was in Estonia it was shown to me by a cacher to explain what caching was about. I did not sign the log. I didn’t take credit for it. If I go back to Estonia I’ll get the souvenir
.
Power trail caching, leapfrogging, I think is bogus. If you see the cache you can claim it.
Bottom line, Its just a GAME. If you “Cheat” Who are you cheating?
Thanks Ed. Good question about cheating. I think you’re just cheating yourself!
