WAY back when, you couldn’t even enter coordinates into my GPSr by holding down an arrow key until the coordinates moved to where you wanted to go. I only knew how to do one waypoint at a time. Then someone stole it. A friend gave me one of the “Old Yellow” eTrexes. It must be older than the one you have because it didn’t have a toggle switch. It also didn’t have WAAS – Wide Angle Augmentation System, which helped you get to within 20 feet. Old Yellow taught me how to cache – start looking as you’re approaching.
I wanted but never did get a PDA so I could have cache descriptions. I bought a Colorado 300 from a friend. I was a happy camper!
I started in 2007. I heard from the real old timers that they could tell you if a cache was placed with a Garmin or Magellan depending on whether the coordinates were decent or off in a certain direction. Something to keep in mind when looking for really old caches that may have never had the coordinates updated.
