Re: Caches and the Police
This reminded me about a cache local to us (Berkshire, UK) which had a sort but eventful life culminating in a trip to the local Police station for its owner. (Details have been kept vague to prevent blushes!)
The cache was created for an Event which was going to happen a few weeks later. The owner scouted the location, created the page and submitted the cache but asked the reviewer to hold it until the Event. Unfortunatley the cache was published too early and another local cacher went to try and get the FTF. However the cache wasn’t actually in place, plus the owner had accidentally entered the Parking co-ordinates instead of the real ones. One fruitless hunt later this local cacher posted a DNF. The owner appologised, corrected the co-ordinates and disabled the cache until the event for which it was intended.
The problems didn’t stop there! The cache was placed ready for the event. However a few days later the owner got an e-mail from Groundspeak who had in turn recieved an e-mail from the local police saying that the cache had been handed in as “Lost Property” and could the owner contact the police to reclaim it! The owner then had to visit the local police station and ask for their Ammo box back! Aparantly the cache had been muggled and left in the open. Someone else had found it and handed it in as “Lost Property”!
The cache has now been archived!
