Don't know how many of you noticed, but our site was actually shut down for a short time (almost an hour) on Monday this week. Our hosting provider suspended our account due to excessive CPU usage. The shutdown is done automatically based on statistics and fortunately, as soon as I contacted technical support and requested intervention, they re-enabled our account. But it was a strong warning that we MUST do something soon! If you have followed the discussion on our show and in the forums, you know this is not a bandwidth or storage space issue (we have plenty of both) - it is simply high CPU usage due to many new visitors to our website, which we consider a GREAT thing!
We are looking at a couple of options. I (Sandy) have been working hard on the process to upgrade our site to a newer version of our blogging software (WordPress). Hopefully this will be a more optimized version and our CPU usage will go down. This will probably be a short-term fix, however, if we continue to grow. By practicing in a test space, I'm trying to minimize the time our website will be down during the upgrade. The other option will be to sooner or later move to a semi-dedicated server which will give us significantly more processing power, but which will also have a much higher monthly cost than what we are paying now.
Just wanted to let you guys know what is happening behind the scenes at PodCacher.com. Hope you all have a great weekend and we'll see you back here for the milestone Show 100 on Monday!!
