Positive:
1) The unit is a very inexpensive “starter GPSrâ€?. You can find these at garage sales or on e-bay for approximately $20.00. If you decide that you like Geocaching, then you can upgrade later and not be out a lot of money.
2) The Magellan 2000 is accurate enough to find caches. We've located over 50 caches with this unit before deciding to upgrade to a newer unit (because of the negatives below).
3) This unit possesses very good battery life. The Magellan 2000 operates on 4-AA Alkaline batteries for approximately 24 hours without the backlight lit. Many newer receivers will only operate for about 12-14 hours of continuous use; however, the newer receivers operate on 2-AA Alkaline or better yet, 2-AA NiMh batteries.

Negative:
1) The unit does not have any built-in or up-loadable base maps; only position and four navigational screens.
2) The unit is unable to connect to a PC. This means that all waypoints must be hand-entered; which can become a very tiresome and lengthy process.
3) The unit is slower to acquire satellites or initialize the GPSr than newer models.
