Positive:
1) Low cost
2) Excellent signal reception (much better than a regular etrex)
3) Super long battery life (over 40 hours on a set of AA batteries)
4) Fairly extensive non upgradable basemap
5) Its a beautiful yellow color
6) 1000 waypoint capacity
Negative:
1) Lack of "official" waypoint pc download connectivity, (there are improvised methods to do it, and I have done it)
2) user interface seems sluggish at times (but remember, it only cost you $40)
Comments:
I was looking for a low cost "starter" gps that I could have on hand for those times that someone wanted to come along caching, or maybe even take home to get their feet wet. After lots of poking around on the internet I decided to checkout the Lowrance ifinder go. They can be found on ebay used for $30 - $40. At that price I don't think that you can go wrong with this model. They are sold new at various places for $75 - $89. I have been approached many times by friends and family about geocaching, and the first question they ask is how much does a gps cost? When I reply that receivers usually start new at $99, it turns many of them off. So I started picking these up on ebay, and letting them reimburse me what it cost me. By doing this, I have "assisted" at least one family so far into the caching world. It may not be a powerhouse super duper gps, but it has enabled people to get into the sport who never would have otherwise.
